Clothing

Backpack/Avalanche Gear

Sleeping Equipment

    • Around -9C sleeping bag (preferably down - synthetic works fine) - Mountain Hardwear Bishops pass
    • Inflatable sleeping mat with an R value of 4+ - Exped ultra 
    • Optional blow up pillow to make a more luxurious stay
    • Head torch (maybe a small lamp for the evening) - Petzl Tikka
    • Toothbrush/toothpaste
    • Toilet roll in a waterproof bag

Personal Cooking Utensils

    • Cutlery (spork if packing lighter)
    • Sharp portable knife (multi-tool works)
    • Bowl (collapsible Tupperware is a good hack)
    • Cup
    • Thermos 
    • Lighter 
    • Water bottle (minimum of 1L) Ex: nalgene

Ski Equipment 

Group Equipment

    • 1-2 887ml fuel bottles (changes depending on size of group) - MSR
    • Whisperlite cooking stove (2 or more is better)
    • 2 or more cooking pots - alpha pot
    • Bin bags
    • Communal large first aid kit - Escape Route Backcountry first aid kit
    • Satellite phone or device - Zoleo
    • GPS/map/compass
    • If you want to be careful water treatment tablets/ filtration device
    • Hatchet/saw (if there’s none at the hut - check hut information before going)

Food/Drink

    • Plenty of snacks for throughout the day
    • Split evening meals throughout the group or freeze dried meals
    • Rehydration tablets (especially for hangovers)
    • A proper day of skiing ends up with a good IPA or 5 (or whiskey if you’re going light weight)
    • Bags of wine are lighter than bottles and are more compact to carry down

More Info/Tips

    • Having a guardian angel (someone that knows your plan)
    • Spare food just in case
    • Have GPS coordinates of where the hut is 
    • Plan more time than you think it will take for you to get to the hut (early bird catches the worm)
